The snow peak in this painting is Whistler Mountain. Whistler mountain used to be called London mountain but had the name changed in 1965. The Whistler name came from the whistling sound of the marmot that lived in the alpine areas of the mountain. I painted this piece in Nov 2014. The snow had not yet reached down to the base of the mountain though it has been snowing in the peaks starting around 2 weeks previous to when this painting was completed. It won’t be long before this entire mountain is completely white with fresh snow.
