One Of A Kind Art For One Of A Kind People
STONE SCULPTURE · PAINTINGS · DRAWINGS
I'm Andrew Gable. I carve bears from stone — not cast, not copied. Every piece is one of a kind, cut by hand from soapstone, marble, and alabaster, and it'll outlast us all.
I trained as a painter and drawer before I ever picked up a chisel, and that part of me never left. These days the studio holds three kinds of work: the bears and wildlife I'm known for, small songbirds that sell almost as fast as I can carve them, and the drawings and paintings I came home to.
It's not about creating the best art in the world. It's about creating my best art — for people who want something real.
Sculpture — Bears and wildlife, carved from solid stone. My bread and butter since 2013.
Songbirds — Small stone songbirds, a couple every few months. They rarely last long.
Drawings — Where I started. Back at the drawing board — literally.
Paintings — Fatherhood changed what I paint. These ones are personal.
Monumental
Some pieces are bigger than a studio. Legacy — an 1,800-pound Italian marble polar bear — is the most ambitious thing I've ever carved. I take on a small number of monumental and commissioned works each year.
